Phillip Sargent

Phillip Sargent was born in 1950 in Perth, Western Australia. He was raised with Christian morals, but knew nothing of the Christian gospel. At age 29 his first marriage shattered like a bursting bubble and in the pain and shock he called out to God as any unbeliever would – not believing that God was
really there and was listening. Over the period of the following two years he was led on a spiritual journey by a spiritual influence that he learned to trust, and later realised was in reality the God he had called out to.

His eyes were opened to the spiritual world for the first time in his life and,
unbelievably, he was led to faith in Jesus Christ through reading a New Age book from the Findhorn Community in Scotland. He quickly embraced his new found faith and started attending Bible studies, with a great appetite. He is a retired Control System Engineer who has spent his working career in
programming industrial control systems, mostly in the mining industry in Western Australia, but now owns and operates Redmile Coffee Roasters in Perth’s Eastern Hills as a retirement passion.

However, his main passion is his Christian life and Bible study, having become a born-again believer in Jesus Christ in late 1980. He spent his formative years as a Christian in an open Brethren Fellowship where he sat under excellent teaching for many years – teaching that still forms the basis of his understanding of the entire Bible. It was in this fellowship that his teaching gift was first recognised and employed.

Being single after the shipwreck of his first marriage just prior to his salvation, he had many hours to deep dive into the Bible and New Testament Greek studies. His now wife of 37 years, Jan, came to Christ around the same time and through a similar path and they have been blessed with five
children and five grandchildren. His wife Jan is a deeply spiritual woman, and together they share a passion for Bible study and practical, victorious Christian life.

Phil takes every opportunity to teach the Word of God in his local church and he and Jan have been on several short teaching trips in Papua New Guinea. As a dedicated Christian, Phil struggled with his besetting sin, and for many years failed to overcome through ignorance of the Lord’s plan and provision for victory. Despite endless prayer, confession and struggle, he always fell back into failure, but never gave up.

His firm belief is that Christianity has to work where the rubber meets the road, or it’s not worth having, believing that when Jesus said that He had overcome the world, He meant it.  After many years of struggle, failure, study and prayer, the Lord was kind enough to ignore his ignorant prayers and open his eyes to the truths in His Word that are the subject of this book.
.
Only after that, did Phil quickly become (mostly) victorious in the Christian life, a victory that he and Jan still treasure and live daily to this day, and long to share with others. After being Christians for some forty four years, Phil and his wife enjoy a deeply spiritual life and love to invest in the lives of others to share what the Lord has taught them.

Throughout their Christian life they longed for spiritual fathers and mothers (1 Cor 4:15) to help raise them up, but never found them. Now they long to be spiritual fathers and mothers to others and hope that this book will in
some way go to fulfil that desire. (1 John 5:4 NASB) For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith
